Men’s Comp.

A great field of 22 players played in 4B Aggregate last Saturday.

The Veldman brothers played very well scoring 75 points, runners up Tony Chapman and Fox O’Donohue with 72 points. A highlight of the day was David Rowe’s eagle on the 11th and the nest is empty!! (one ball thanks Brad!)

Wednesday comp., 12 players played and both Tony Chapman and Fox O’Donohue burnt the field with 38 points each, Tony winning on a countback.

Great to see Andrew Roseby having a hit and the Club sends its best wishes to Ichlis who is recovering from an operation.

Alpine Classic

The Club had a meeting last Friday with Bright and Wangaratta Clubs to plan next year’s Classic. Our co-Ordinators Robyn and Peter Ternes were present. Some of the decisions made –

Ladies Comp

Last Tuesday, 18 players played Stableford and Liz Orton, playing in her first 18 hole comp. had a brilliant 36 points , runner up Sandra Piazza with 35 points.

The nine hole comp. winner was Ann Bryant with 20 points, runner up Kerry Chapman, Well done ladies.

The final of the Julie Phillips 4BBB was a classic final, it went to the 19th hole to find a winner and it was Jan Roseby/Lyn Dwyer defeating Judy Bynon/Marnie Broz. I believe that Jan and Lyn did not hit the front until the 19th.Julie’s son Don is donating a new honor board for the Club.

Yesterday 11 ladies played in the monthly medal. Liz Orton continues to burn up the field, two vouchers for the week. Liz had a net 67, no doubt lost a couple of shots off her handicap. Runner up Barb Welch with a net 69.

9 hole comp winner was Robyn Ternes, runner up Kaye Holmes.

Increase in fees

From yesterday, all our fees are going up, including competition, cart hire and green fees. If you are working in the office please take note.

The Course

Terrific working bee last Monday, standing up flooded trees, erecting the out of bounds markers and planting trees. Present Tony Chapman, Fox O’Donohue, Peter Stewart, Roscoe Tanner, Geoff Veldman, Pieter Veldman and Jim Martin. As soon as we can get the truck on to the course, working bees will be needed in picking up sticks.

I have made contact with NECMA re repairs of flood damage to our 15th fairway. They inspected the flood damage yesterday with John Costello. John has reported back to me that it was a very positive visit, in fact John showed him all our drainage issues as well. There could be grants available to help fix our problems.

A huge shout out to members who go out there alone to put in time working on course maintenance – John Costello, Fox, Peter Ternes and Judy and Barry Bynon. Apologies if I have missed anyone.

We must be careful lighting fires under trees. Last year, we had a fire truck on the course after a tree caught a light, Judy and Barrie have done a great job on the 18th.

It was great that the full course was opened yesterday.

NEDGA

I attended the annual meeting of the NEDGA this week.

  1. All office bearers re-elected, with no Men’s Golf Operation person.
  2. Membership fees – they have a bank balance of over $110.000. I moved that fees be halved this year and that motion was Carried
  3. Many small Clubs are struggling, Dederang, Tallangatta have closed. Could be an opportunity for our Club to pick up some new members.
  4. Ladies to play pennant of Fridays
  5. Our Club to host opening day on Feb. 12. Note for ladies - the Club will be providing lunch that day.

NE Veterans

The list is on the notice board, Monday, 12th December, Bright.

Sponsorship

We have many business houses supporting our Club and this week Buffalo Pest Control sprayed our building as a donation to our Club, a huge thanks to Golly Knobel and if you go into his Newsagency, make sure you tell him how much this is appreciated.

We thank Myrtleford Post Ofice for being our prize sponsor last month, Buffalo Hotel this month. For our Alpine Classic, Winsec have increased their sponsorship to $1000, great news for our Club.

Golf Instructors

It has been great seeing students from both Secondary Schools having golf lessons on our course. Are you interested in being a golf instructor? Golf Australia will pay you to become accredited instructor. Next course is in Shepparton in January. The future of golf is in our hands. We look back with gratitude to the likes of Bill Newton who taught our kids how to play golf and go on to join our Club. Sadly, there is no one around today to step up and help the kids in our community embrace the wonderful world of golf. If you are interested please contact me and we can discuss – this will be a win win for you and the Club, who know we may have a Cameron Smith or Grace Kim under our very noses!

Centennial Shirts

Did you miss out early this year in purchasing a centennial shirt.

Following a request for the shirts, orders forms are available at the Club house, cost $45.
