Course

This week the contractors have laid pipe along the 17th and laid poly pipe to be used as an overflow pipe for the dam, controlling the height.

We had excellent rain last Tuesday, just in time. It is amazing we can go through each year without setting up the irrigation pump in the creek.

We are spreading gypsum on Monday, maybe clean your shoe soles when coming into the Clubhouse.

ReRating our Course

It is 13 years ago since our course has been rated. Presently, the slope rating for men is 116 and for ladies 120. We have the situation when neighboring clubs come to course, say for pennant and their handicap drops two shots, such as Jubilee and Bright. I have approached Golf Australia to see when re rating will take place. Golf Australia will re rate all 1600 golf courses in the 24-25 financial year.

Recycling Cans and bottles

Thanks to members who have brought and continue to bring their cans and bottles up to the Clubhouse. Another little revenue winner for the Club. We now have a bag stand outside, near the bins. Please put all the recyclables in the bag and not in the bins.

The trailer run down to Wang. resulted in $377, we are now approaching $1,000. Thanks to all members who help load trailer and Lesley and Peter Stewart for helping me unload.

Social night.

Tomorrow night, our clubhouse is being hired out for a birthday party, huge thanks to Trout Batt for been bar attendant and supervisor.

Office

Always a concern for the Club is having members service our office. This week I approached new member Andrew Loftus and he is willing to be added to existing members who carry out this task willingly – always need more on the list ! Thanks Andrew. It is so important we have a solid band of members available. Members are not always available, holidays etc., If you are interested contact a committee person.

A Huge Shout out to Peter Stewart who was there all day on Tuesday, Bright closed their course to green fee players so they flooded down to our Club.

A roster for Easter is on the notice board, we need names for the whole of the school holidays.

Ladies Comp

Last Tuesday, 18 ladies played in a stableford event.

Judy Bynon was on fire with an excellent 37 points, runner up Jan Roseby with 36 points.

The 9 hole winner with an excellent 23 points was Carl Ames, runner up Denise O’Donohue.

Pennant

Our division 1 girls last Friday were defeated by Thurgoona 4/1, with Liz Orton our only winner. No doubt both teams will bounce back today in Albury.

Two men’s teams played last Sunday.

Craig Piazza, Sarge Evans, Trout Batt, Paul Cowman and Ben Holmes won 3/2 at Mansfield, this Sunday they are playing at Corowa. Great start boys.

Our other pennant team, Brad Carroll, Ichlis, Geoff Veldman, Jade Galvan and Paul Green were defeated 4/1 against Jubilee at home, no doubt they will bounce back too.

Alpine Classic

The Alpine Classic was held over two days this week.

We only had one member, Bob Toal in the Classic and he performed brilliantly winning the overall A grade champion. He also won the day at Bright, well done Bob.

Our Classic is a true Club commitment by Robyn and Peter Ternes – Directors, thank you Robyn and Peter.

Our Sponsors – WINSEC., ALPINE SHIRE, MYRTLEFORD HOLIDAY PARK, MYRTLEFORD FLOOR AND FURNISHING, ARDERNS CARAVAN PARK, SNOWLINE FRUITS.

Our ladies in the kitchen, members in the office, bar, looking after carts, the members who lent their carts, Blackie and Wazza for the beautiful course. Thank you all, you all did the Club proud.

As President, I’m proud of so many players who complimented on our beautiful course.

Chris Rigoni Shield

Two semi-finals were played last Saturday.

The first one was the McKerral family and Macca and Doc Rossato defeated Crackers and Harry 5/4. After 9, Doc and Macca were two up and went on to win it.

The other final was between Rosco Tanner and Jon Mercuri and Spider Hancock and Dick Matthews. After 9, Rosco and Jon were two up, Spider and Dick fought back to lose on the 18th.

Rosco and Jon won the Shield in 2021, BUT grand final! anything can happen.
