MYRTLEFORD GOLF CLUB BULLETIN FRIDAY 12/04/2024

SATURDAY 06/04/24

A fairly healthy field - given the threatening looking rain radar - of 19 players took part in today’s Drummond Golf Monthly Medal. I’m sure some of these players got quite wet!! 🌧️

Winner with a great score of 85/71 nett was Jonathan Mercuri, Rup Damien Rossato 81/72. Ball winners John Costello 73 nett, Alan Rockliff 74, c/b Jim Martin.

NTPs 1st & 14th John C, 2nd/4th Paul Carr, 8th Ben Holmes, 16th Johnny M.

TUESDAY 09/04/2024

Today was everybody’s favourite game - v Par! Minus 9 was the popular number…..excuses ranged from couldn’t putt, I’ve got sea legs, crow stole my ball, not enough trees left to hit….🤣

Fortunately a couple of players pushed through the pain barrier to card respectable scores!! Winner was Carolyn Prowse -2, rup Beth Roseby -3, c/b Marnie Broz. Ball winner Faye McLees -4.

NTPs were shared between two straight hitters - 1st & 8th Marg Curtis, 2nd/4th and 14th Angela O’Shaughnessy.

Nine hole winner Marg Curtis 21pts, rup Jennifer Leita 13pts.

WEDNESDAY 10/04/24

The biannual Myrtleford/Bright challenge match was held today in perfect golfing conditions.

43 participants vied for the coveted honour in an event instigated many years ago by the late Bob Wickes.

Myrtleford made the most of their home ground advantage to be the overall winners with an average of 31.1 to 24.1.

Ladies’ winner Kerry Newton 35pts, rup Jan Roseby 34.

Men’s A grade winner Stuart Carlisle 34pts, rup Spider Hancock 33.

B grade winner Brian Caldwell 39pts, rup Andrew Loftus 37.

Many thanks to Kerry Newton & Marnie Broz for running the office and our kitchen queens for the salad rolls and slices.

THURSDAY 11/04/24

A very select field today, & welcome home for a visit, Fran Jackson. Congratulations to those who played for the third consecutive day! The rest of us are saving ourselves for pennant tomorrow…..

Carolyn Prowse made it a double today with her second win this week, 33pts, rup Heather Street 30. Betty Newton led home the 9 holers with 15pts, rup Pat McPherson 14.

Pennants teams travelling to Thurgoona & YW tomorrow. Good hitting girls!

WORKING BEE SUNDAY 7/04/2024

A fantastic effort cleaning up trees and tree debris on the 9th, 10th, 11th, 15th and 16th with 17 attending. Special mention to Ben Holmes for his expertise, Alan Rockcliff for truck loading with his excavator, Zac Cunneen for his truck, Simon Crisp for his elevator and Jim Martin for organising. Trout and Clarky did a great job on keeping the water flowing to the workers and then doing lunch.

Another day in the future should see us complete the tree/vegetation issues and then we can get into the tree planting program before the spring.

MONTHLY SPONSOR FOR APRIL

Our thanks to Jade Galvan and the team at Alpine Dairy for being our competition sponsors for April.

CLUBHOUSE ISSUES

The new security camera system is about 80% installed by Dick and Spider. This will help protect our assets and alert us to inappropriate behaviour and the freeloaders who come and use our facilities.

There has been a bad smell in the Clubhouse toilets for some months and various inspections and flushing of our sewer by plumbers has not fixed the problem. It was suggested on Wednesday that it could be a problem with the North East Water sewer main that crosses the 18th Fairway as the same smell was evident there. Hopefully the issue can be identified and fixed soon.

We thought our refrigerated water dispenser at the Clubhouse had given up the ghost. We had a plumber inspect it and it now appears to be working. Let us know if it is still not cooling properly.

ASSISTANT GREENKEEPER

The Committee has approved of the reappointment of Jon Mercuri to the position vacated by Wazza and we are looking forward to having Jon back working with us. He will work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and some Saturday mornings to give Blackie a break from all of the Greens mowing he does.
